On-loan defender Max Ehmer will remain with Gillingham for the rest of the season.

The Gills extended 22-year-old Ehmer's loan on transfer deadline day, while they are also hoping to keep striker John Marquis longer than his initial month loan from Millwall.

Ehmer has impressed at the heart of the Gills defence alongside John Egan and was praised for his performance in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Walsall by Gillingham coach Darren Hare, who is part of the four-man caretaker management team.

Had they not tied up a longer-term deal for Ehmer on Monday, the German-born centre-back would have only been able to stay with Gills for a maximum of 93 days this campaign. Ehmer has made 11 appearances for Gillingham since joining on loan from QPR in late November.

The player said last week that he wanted to stay longer-term with Gills and his wish has been granted.
