Former Gillingham loan player leaves Coventry City for a loan spell at Cambridge United

Declan Drysdale has joined another team on loan just weeks after ending his spell with Gillingham.

The 21-year-old was recalled from his loan at Gillingham by parent club Coventry City in the middle of January after playing 15 games during his time at Priestfield. He's now signed for Cambridge United.

Drysdale played in midfield and most recently central defence for the Gills and now heads to League 2 Cambridge United, who recently lost the services of Robbie Cundy, the Bristol City player switching to Gillingham last week for the rest of the season.

He didn’t feature for Coventry on his return to the club and will be hoping for more chances to improve in the lower division of the EFL at a club who are riding high.

He’s the second of this season’s former loanees at Gillingham to move elsewhere. Celtic’s Scott Robertson, who played 19 games for the Gills in the first half of the season before being recalled, has signed for fellow League 1 side Doncaster Rovers on loan.

Gillingham are themselves hoping to add three players to their squad before the winter transfer window closes on Monday night.
