Gillingham hope to extend the loan of Brighton defender Adam Chicksen and re-sign Cardiff's Deji Oshilaja

Gillingham are hoping to extend the loan of defender Adam Chicksen this week.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Chicksen has been with the Gills for a month and the current deal expires on Tuesday (February 23).

He originally came in as cover for left-back Bradley Garmston but he has now recovered from a hamstring injury.

Gills boss Justin Edinburgh will be looking to extend Chicksen's loan from Brighton for another month to help cover for the current crop of injuries at the club.

Defenders Ryan Jackson and John Egan have both received knee injuries while Doug Loft suffered an ankle injury at Oldham on Saturday.

At Oldham, Chicksen was played on the right of defence, in a makeshift back four that saw Aaron Morris switch back to the central defensive roll.

Chicksen has made four appearances during his latest stint, three starts and one from the bench.

Edinburgh will also be hoping to have Cardiff City defender Deji Oshilaja in place before the weekend game against Chesterfield.

Gillingham did try and sign him before the Oldham match but the Championship side needed him to cover for injuries and suspensions.

Oshilaja could again feature in the Cardiff squad for their game at Middlesbrough on Tuesday. From that point on, the Bluebirds’ selection problems will have eased and the 22-year-old will be free to resume his loan spell with the Gills.

He played 15 games for Edinburgh's team earlier this season before returning to Wales as cover.

A 93-day loan deal was agreed a month ago but he would miss out on any potential play-off final if the agreement started before this Saturday. The League 1 play-off final is on May 29.
