Plans approved to open up St Peter's Church tower in Sandwich

Plans to open up St Peter’s Church tower in Sandwich to the public have been approved.

The application to enhance the medieval church in Market Street as a tourist destination will see new balustrading and an observation platform for the tower, an outbuilding to accommodate toilet and storage facilities in the garden and the reopening of the historic doorway.

It was approved by Dover District Council on November 24. Part of the conditions means that there can be no telescope or magnifying equipment on the tower.

This comes after some residents feared their privacy would be breached by having people looking into their properties.

Sandwich Town Council approved of the plans.
