Netflix series The Crown filmed at Discovery Park in Sandwich while crews stayed at Blazing Donkey hotel

A Kent hotel was booked out in its entirety by crews working on huge Netflix show The Crown.

The director of the Blazing Donkey says the rooms were occupied by production staff from the hit series.

They stayed in the Ham, near Sandwich, establishment while working at the nearby Discovery Park over several days last week.

The crew were understood to have built a special set in a unit at the business park as they worked on season six.

The latest episode, which was filmed in secret, is due to be released next year.

Hotel director Trefor Squire said the crew told him they were filming scenes connected to the death of Diana.

"I spoke with some of the crew and senior members of the production team and they were here to film more scenes after the one about the car accident in Paris," he said.

“It sounded like it was going to be quite a tear jerker from what I could gather.

“They said it was for season six and they booked out the whole hotel, staying with us most of the week.”

The show about the royal family is meant to be fictional but recreates many real life situations as though they really happened.

The latest series stars Dominic West, Jonathon Pryce, Lesley Manville, Imelda Staunton and Elizabeth Debicki as Diana and is now showing on Netflix.

Several Kent locations were used during filming, including Chatham's historic dockyard and Cobham Hall in Gravesend.

The Blazing Donkey made headlines last month after after managers said they turned down more than £1 million to allow asylum seekers to stay at the hotel for 12 months.

Discovery Park, Kent Film Office and Netflix all declined a comment when approached by KentOnline.
