Concerns over motorcyclists racing along Sandwich to Deal Road late at night.

Concerns have been raised over claims that motorbikes are “racing” along the Sandwich to Deal Road late at night.

Speaking at the Sandwich Town Council meeting, Cllr Joe Trussler raised his concerns with PCSO Doreen Lee.

He said: “There are motorcycles speeding along Deal Road again every Wednesday night. We have this problem every year and it never seems to get resolved. It is going on till midnight.

“They are motorcycling up and down that road.”

Miss Lee explained that she was aware there had been problems previously and would look into it. She said: “If motorcyclists are starting to gather round there again, then we will try and resolve the issue.”

It is believed that the motorcyclists are riding along the road on their way to a bike meet at the Adelaide Farm Cafe in Hacklinge. Sophie Farrington, 25, has owned the cafe for seven years and it has been in her family for 65 years.

She said: “We have been working constantly with the police and every time there’s a problem we have been resolving it.”

Miss Farrington explained that the bikers which are getting complaints are not necessarily from the meetings at the Adelaide.

There are also other bike meets on Sandwich Industrial Estates and one along the A2.

Miss Farrington said: “I understand there’s a high chance it could be our bikers and we will talk to them if it is. We shut at 9.45pm so it wouldn’t be us at midnight, but I’ve got no control if they go round their friends’ houses after.”

One biker, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “It’s a sad state of affairs when a group of like-minded people get together that someone seems to think they’re an easy target and as soon as they get cause to complain, they strike out, not really knowing who to strike out at.”
