Public consultation for Richborough Connection project with meeting at Guildhall in Sandwich

The public consultation for the Richborough Connection project will start on Tuesday, February 10.

The consultation will finish on March 27 and this is the last chance for people to have their say on the plans.

There will be a public meeting at the Guildhall in Sandwich where those interested will be able to discuss plans with members of the project team.

This will be held on Saturday, February 28 from 10am until 4pm.

In May last year National Grid announced its draft route for the project which is needed to join the Nemo Link (an electricity link between Belgium and the UK) to the electricity transmission network.

Plans were outlined to build a new high voltage overhead line and remove an existing lower voltage UK Power Networks line.

Project manager Steve Self said: “Over the past months we’ve done a lot of work. Feedback from local people has been really important to us, and we’ve looked at this alongside the technical and environmental studies we’ve carried out to ensure our plans achieve the right balance between environmental and technical factors and the impact on people’s energy bills.

He added: “This is likely to be our last consultation on the Richborough Connection project before we apply for planning consent, so don’t miss the opportunity to tell us what you think.

“I look forward to meeting as many people as possible at the consultation events.”
