Sandwich's Saturday market is back

Speciality sausages, stone baked pizzas and seafood will be on offer at the new Sandwich Farmers, Crafts and Country Market, today (Saturday).

Stephen Kirkaldie, who runs a mobile fish shop at the Thursday market in the town, has decided to revive and re-brand the old Saturday Farmer’s Market.

It will be held on the first and third Saturdays on the month on the Guildhall Square, from 9am until 1pm.

Mr Kirkaldie said: “It hasn’t run for a couple of years. It dwindled away through a lack of enthusiasm but I’m hoping this one is going to do a lot better.

“It’s got to the point on Saturdays that even the local shops would like to see something that brings people into the town.”

More than 14 stalls have signed up to sell Italian street food, meat, seafood, fishing equipment, cakes and cookies.

The Mayor of Sandwich Cllr Paul Graeme has been invited to attend.

Pitches cost £15. If you’d like to have a stall email sandwichfarmersmarket@outlook.com
