TWO young violinists join the Becker Orchestra in Sandwich tomorrow (Friday), for a summer programme of music at St Mary’s Church.

Kathy Shave and Florianne Peycelon will be playing the Double Violin Concerto by Bach and it is expected to be an exceptional evening of entertainment.

Tickets cost £15 and are available on the door before the 8pm start, or in Sandwich in advance.

The Becker Orchestra string section will be conducted by John Perkins, who lives in Deal and has been leader of the Becker Ensemble since its formation in 1988.

He began studying the violin at 15 and at the age of 17 was appointed leader of the orchestra in HM Yacht Britannia, a position he held for the next eight years.

John said: “Apart from Bach at our summer concert, Kathy and Florianne will also be performing Strauss’s Metamorphosen for 23 solo strings.

“The Becker ensemble will be augmented by musicians of international reputation and the concert will be played in the beautiful and convenient venue of St Mary’s in Strand Street.”

Other Becker concert dates are set for August 21, again at St Mary’s, and November 7 and December 13, at Sandwich Guildhall.

For ticket details, call 01304 239356, or buy them from the tourist information centre at Sandwich Guildhall, The Sandwich Bookshop, 60 King Street, Sandwich, or Farthings, Delf Street, Sandwich.

The musicians will also be performing another Prom in the Park at Ripplevale School, Ripple, on August 1.
