The Sheppey Crossing was closed earlier today because of a broken down van.

The vehicle shut the Sittingbourne-bound carriageway of the A249 around lunchtime.

Police were called at 12.35pm.

A spokesman said: "Officers attended and arrangements were made for the vehicle to be recovered."

Traffic was diverted from Cowstead Corner roundabout onto the old Sheppey Way and across the Kingsferry lift bridge to the mainland.
