Former Laleham Gap School in Broadstairs on the market

An abandoned school site earmarked for homes has been put up for sale.

The former Laleham Gap School in Broadstairs is open to bidders after Kent County Council put it on the market.

The cliff-side property has been set aside for 10 homes in the Thanet District Council's Local Plan, but estate agency Sibley Pares says a bigger development “should be available” for buyers.

Included in the land - which is almost two football fields in size - are the abandoned school buildings which have sat empty for seven years.

The agents say: “The surrounding area along South Cliff Parade and Western Esplanade is characterised by luxury residential and flatted development.”

The opportunity - which has not been given an asking price - is split into two parcels of land, which can be sold together or separately.

One contains the old school buildings, which are in such bad condition that “viewings are not possible”.

The second is undeveloped, and Sibley Pares suggests the patch would be suitable for two detached houses.

Laleham Gap School moved from the site in 2016 and relocated to Ozengell Place in Ramsgate.
