Man arrested after suspected arson attack on flat in Sandhurst Place, Margate

A 55-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a fire broke out in a flat.

Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to the blaze in Sandhurst Place in Margate at around 6.20pm yesterday.

Four fire engines were sent to the scene and crews used a smoke screen to stop the flames from spreading.

One man was treated for smoke inhalation and passed to paramedics.

Crews had left the scene by 7.50pm.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called to Sandhurst Place in Margate at around 6.20pm on Friday 27 May 2022, to assist Kent Fire and Rescue at the scene of a fire in a property.

"A 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and remains in police custody.

"Officers continue to carry out their enquiries at the scene to establish the full circumstances of the incident."
