Two fire engines were sent at 5.32pm and crews extinguished the flames using hose reel jets.

A wooden gazebo was also damaged but no injuries were reported.

Following the incident, the fire service has reminded people lighting a bonfire to take care and offered advice.

A spokesman said: "Keep it small and well clear of greenery, fences or property.

"Supervise the burning at all times and have a bucket of water/hosepipe nearby.

"Also, it's nice to let your neighbours know out of courtesy."

If the fire gets out of control then people are told to call 999.
