Police and ambulances called to Almond Close, Broadstairs after car collapses on two men

Two men have been hurt after the car they were working on collapsed on top of them this afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to Almond Close in Broadstairs at 3.52pm following the accident.

The two men - one in his late 20s and another in his early 50s - became trapped underneath the car when the hoist holding it up gave way.

Police cars two ambulance cars and two ambulances were at the scene, and the air ambulance also landed nearby.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 3.52pm to Almond Close, Broadstairs following reports that two people were trapped underneath a car.

"Both men are now in the care of the South East Coast Ambulance Service."

An ambulance spokesman said the men were trapped under the car for 45 minutes, and were freed when fire crews lifted the car.

Medics were then able to treat the men, the youngest of whom suffered hip injuries.

Both were taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford for treatment.
