Police responding to crash find driver had been stabbed by robbers who he gave a lift to in Birchington

Police arrived at a crash scene to find the driver had been stabbed by a robber he had given a lift to.

The man was found with a knife wound to his chest when officers responded to the smash in Canterbury Road, Birchington.

It emerged the attackers were a man and a woman who the victim had picked up earlier in the evening outside his work in Channel Road, Margate.

As he dropped them off at the junction of Prospect Road and Westfield road, the man attempted to steal the victim's wallet.

There was a struggle, and the driver was stabbed in the side of his chest.

He then drove off and crashed into an oncoming car in Canterbury Road at 10pm.

He was later taken to King's College Hospital in London for treatment.

The incident happened on Tuesday, October 13, and police have now launched an appeal for witnesses.

The man is described as white, around 20 years old with a slim build and short dark hair. He is about 6ft 2in tall.

The woman is described as being 18 or 19 years old with long dark hair. She has a slim build and is about 5ft 3ins.
