Broadstairs councillor names new chicken Jeremy Corbyn after Boris Johnson jibe

A Labour councillor has defended his party leader with an unusual gesture - by giving his new chicken the same moniker.

Councillor Aram Rawf from Broadstairs has named his pet Jeremy Corbyn, after the Prime Minister hit out at the shadow minister for voting against a General Election.

But the Beacon Ward representative insists the new name isn't insult, as he believes the animals are highly intelligent.

He's now inviting the country's leader to visit his allotment to discover how "bright and fearless" his brood are.

He said: “Boris Johnson called Jeremy Corbyn chicken because he didn’t vote for a general election, so I thought that was a sign for what I should name my new chicken.

“Chickens aren’t cowardly or stupid. Chickens are highly intelligent animals.

“I have nine of them on my allotment in Broadstairs and I know how bright and fearless they are.”

He added: “Mr Johnson obviously has the wrong idea about chickens.

"I would like to invite him to come and see them, especially my latest addition, Jeremy.

"I’m sure he’ll change his mind.”

Jeremy the chicken is three months old and is actually a female. Cllr Rawf is hoping she will lay him lots of eggs.

He added: “Jeremy’s eggs will be sky blue in colour, but she is definitely not a member of the Breggsit Party!”
