Thanet District Council's dog mess clearer Fido stolen from Manston Road

A vehicle used by a council to clear up dog poo was stolen by thieves in an act branded "mindless" by the authority.

The truck - called Fido - was swiped on Sunday from Thanet District Council's depot in Manston Road, Margate.

Police recovered the vehicle on Sunday night, but it appeared to have been for a ruff ride as it was found with substantial damage.

TDC has condemned the thieves, calling their actions "disappointing".

A spokesman said: "On Sunday, Manston Road was broken into and the Fido was stolen.

"It was recovered by the police on Sunday night and returned, however it has been substantially damaged.

"It is deeply disappointing that individuals see fit to commit mindless acts of theft, in this case vandalising specialist equipment.

"We are in contact with our insurers."
