Southeastern response staff were been sent to the area to resolve the problem.

Meanwhile, trains were also turned around at Margate "to stop a queue forming into Ramsgate station".

A Southeastern spokesman said: "A broken down train at Dumpton Park meant the line from Ramsgate towards Margate was blocked.

"Trains were being turned around at Margate to stop a queue forming into Ramsgate station."

The train has since been moved back towards Ramsgate station to allow passengers to exit, with the rail operator adding: "Services between Thanet and London are severely delayed and may be altered or cancelled."

Elsewhere in the county, services were brought to a standstill between Sittingbourne and Sheerness-on-Sea due to signalling problems.

Southeastern contacted bus suppliers to request rail-replacement transport and sent response workers to the area.

The issues in Sittingbourne were fixed just after 3.10pm, while the disruption in Thanet lasted until 3.45pm.
