Fun in the sun for young pupils

A fun day of activities in the late summer sunshine was enjoyed by 80 children aged eight and nine years old from the Thanet cluster one primary schools.

Soccer coaching with Charlton Athletic FC, balancing and juggling skills with Kent Circus School, drumming with Rich Latham’s Rich Rhythms and an inflatable assault course and bouncy castle were among the attractions laid on at Birchington Primary School.

The event was organised by family liaison officers who work with children and families via schools around the area.

Tracey Kingston, senior FLO, said: “All the children had a fantastic day, thanks to the hard work and committment of the FLOs.”

Lesley Green, FLO at Birchington primary said: “The feedback has been excellent and we hope to make this a regular event. One boy told his mum it was one of the best days he had ever had - that makes all our work worthwhile.”

Youngsters from Dane Court Grammar at Broadstairs and Thanet College acted as volunteer helpers, while support came from ASDA, Thanet Council’s Sport4NRG, Thanet Coast Project, Steve at Loyalty Connections coach travel, Art2GoUK, Birchington community ward, PCSOs from Birchington and Westgate, Macdonald’s and Specsavers.
