Thanet: Garlinge Surgery saved from closure by The Limes Medical Centre in Margate

Patients are being urged to re-register at a GP surgery after it was saved from closure.

Margate's Limes Medical Centre is set to open a branch at Garlinge Surgery on July 1.

The move comes after Dr Sohanpol, who runs the surgery, announced in April that his practice would close when he retires on June 30.

Previous patients of Garlinge Surgery will need to register with The Limes to use the branch, or register with another GP practice.

Drop-in sessions to help people with registration are under way with the first taking place today from 9.30am to 6pm at Westbrook House.

The second session takes place on Wednesday, June 22, with the final session being held on Monday, June 27, at the same time and location.

The branch surgery will be based in the existing Garlinge Surgery premises but following planned refurbishment work, the branch surgery will relocate to Westbrook House.

Spokesman for NHS England South Tasha Gardner said: “Following Dr Sohanpol’s decision to retire, our priority has been to ensure all affected patients have ongoing access to local GP services.

“We have now secured alternative care arrangements for patients from Garlinge Surgery, through a new branch surgery run by the nearby Limes Medical Centre.

“We are writing to all affected patients to explain next steps and to support them in moving to a new practice.”
