It is not clear which building is affected and a police officer at the scene would not confirm, but it is thought to be behind the New China Inn.

Crews gave oxygen to one person who was suffering from suspected smoke inhalation, before passing them into the care of SECAmb.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "KFRS was called at 10am to reports of a fire at a property in High Street, Broadstairs.

"Two fire engines have been sent to the scene and crews wearing breathing apparatus are using hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

"Officers from Kent Police are also in attendance to assist with traffic."
