Three men have been detained after immigration officers stormed a Ramsgate business.

The intelligence led operation saw Home Office representatives raid Kyoto Sushi and Grill in High Street, Ramsgate, at 5.20pm yesterday.

The team found three men who were thought to be working in there had overstayed their visas.

They found a 25-year-old Chinese man, a 30-year-old Indian man and a 34-year-old man from Nigeria.

The Chinese man was released and ordered to report to Immagration Enforcement regularly while inquiries continue.

And the other two were detained while arrangements are made for them to be removed from the UK.

Now the owner could face a £60,000 fine for allowing the men to work at his business.

To avoid the fine they must prove that the appropriate right-to-work checks were carried out, including checking their passport and Home Office records.

Assistant director for Immigration Enforcement in the south east Richard Lederle said: "Those who use and exploit illegal workers face severe financial penalties.

"We are happy to work with businesses to ensure the right pre-employment checks are carried out, but those intent on operating outside the law will be found and will be punished.

"Using illegal labour is not victimless. It cheats the taxpayer, undercuts honest businesses and cheats legitimate job seekers of employment opportunities.

"All of our operations are intelligence led and I would encourage people with detailed and specific information about illegal immigration to contact us."
