Phone lines in the Daet area have been down since the extreme weather hit and Mr Jackson was last seen heading out on a 2km walk to an evacuation centre.

His worried mum, Sarah Ransom, a teacher at Hilderstone College, had been appealing for people to share the news of his disappearance on Twitter.

She also shared a picture of a letter written by Mr Jackson's little brother to Father Christmas' elves.

It reads: "Please give this letter to Santa, it's important.

"Tell Santa that can he find out if my brother's safe or not, and if he's not safe I won't have anything for Christmas."

Weather forecasters warned of a "catastrophic storm surge" on Monday, with low-lying areas being evacuated before Typhoon Kammuri arrived.

The country's largest airport was closed due to powerful 130mph winds and heavy rainfall.

But just hours after he penned the heartfelt note Mr Jackson was found.

More to come.
