Fight at Viking Bay in Broadstairs sparks police appeal

Police have launched an appeal after a man was punched during a brawl between two groups of people on a beach.

Footage of the fight at Viking Bay in Broadstairs posted on social media shows more than a dozen people involved in the violence just after 4pm yesterday.

Punches and kicks were exchanged during the shocking two-minute clip.

A man wearing a red vest could also be seen lying on the sand after the melee.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 4.15pm to a report of an assault on Viking Bay beach.

"A man was reportedly punched during an argument between two groups of people. No serious injuries were reported."

The video also shows the young men and women confronting each other just before the fight broke out.

One person is believed to have received treatment from paramedics.

While no arrests have been made, a number of people are believed to have been escorted from the area.

This comes after a number of residents spoke of their disappointment at the numbers of visitors heading to the coast and leaving litter at beauty spots.

Officers are calling for anyone with information about the attack to contact them on 01843 222289, quoting the reference number 46/88034/20.
