Police, ambulance and fire engines in Northdown Road, Cliftonville

A woman and four children have been hit by a car in Cliftonville.

Police, firefighters and ambulances were called to Northdown Road just before 1pm.

There are unconfirmed reports the group were hit by a parked car which rolled after its handbrake was left off.

There was no one in the car at the time.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 12.54pm on Thursday 1 June 2017 to a report of a collision involving a car and a group of pedestrians in Northdown Road, Margate.

"Officers are currently at the scene alongside the Kent Fire and Rescue Service and the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

"The road has been closed while the vehicle is recovered."

South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed four children and an woman were taken to hospital.

He said: "At 12.57pm we responded to a possible mass casualty incident in Sandhurst Place, Margate when a car rolled down a hill into a group of people.

"We mobilised four cars and two ambulances and air ambulance were also alerted.

"A 38-year-old woman has been taken to the William Harvey Hospital with a suspected broken leg and four children have also been taken to hospital with minor injuries."
