Footage captures ‘mysterious’ objects flying through sky in Ramsgate

Stunning footage shows the moment “mysterious objects” were seen flying through the sky in Kent.

Emma Chaudhry captured the “mesmerising” moment in a time-lapse video while walking her dog Rocco in Newington in Ramsgate yesterday morning.

After sharing the footage on social media, it caused speculation as to what they might be with theories ranging from meteors to aeroplanes.

Miss Chaudhry, 41, said: “It was a beautiful sight with the naked eye. I'm so glad I managed to catch a glimpse of it on camera.

“I was just taking my dog for a morning walk when I noticed a strange cloud in the sky.

“That's what drew me in at first. I'm always looking at the sky, it fascinates me.

“I then got back to my car a noticed the sky dramatically changing.

“I thought I'd test out the time-lapse feature on my new phone and film it while I was with Rocco.

“I set it up from my car and was watching it with my eyes. It was mesmerising and breathtakingly stunning.

“At that moment it was so calm and still which added to the atmosphere.

“I have since been researching myself and asking for other people’s opinions to find out what it could actually be.

“I would like to believe it was the end of a meteor shower, but others have mixed opinions.”

However Karl Antier, geophysicist and member of the International Meteor Organisation said the flying objects are in fact aeroplanes.

He explained: “Because the footage is sped up, it gives you the impression the objects are going very fast.

“But in this instance, they are definitely aeroplanes.

“Planes don’t always leave trails, it depends on the altitude and the humidity of the atmosphere.

“Tails happen when small particles leave the engine and make the ice melt around it, that makes a small cloud.

“When a plane goes through a wet atmosphere it will make a trail, when it is dry, it won’t make it.”

Another important factor which proves they are planes, Mr Antier says is the sunrise.

He added: “A sunrise and a sunset can make the planes look brighter because sometimes they reflect the sun more than they do in the daylight.

“We get people saying they see UFOs or very bright meteors at sunrise or sunset, but sometimes it is just the sun reflecting off the plane which can be very disappointing even for us.”
