Suspected ‘laughing gas’ dealers arrested by police in Northdown Road, Margate

Police have seized large amounts of nitrous oxide from suspected drug dealers after stopping a car in the early hours in Margate.

Officers targeted the vehicle in Northdown Road on Saturday due to the way it was being driven.

On searching the car, they found a wrench and eight industrial cans of nitrous oxide, along with items associated with drug-dealing, including a large quantity of cash, empty deal bags, a nozzle and balloons.

The officers then arrested a 22-year-old man and a 16-year-old, both from Margate, on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs, and possessing drugs with intent to supply.

It is illegal to produce or supply nitrous oxide, also known as ‘laughing gas’, for its psychoactive effects under the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016.

The teenager was also arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

They were released on bail until Sunday, July 16 while enquiries continue.
