Sixty minutes later officers apprehended two Thanet men on suspicion of theft.

Following the incident, Insp Ian Swallow urged motorbike and moped owners to make sure their vehicles are secure.

"To reduce the chances of becoming a victim of this type of crime, we advise owners to park their bikes out of sight, in a garage or secure back garden," said the inspector.

"Always lock, chain and cover your bike and if you have to leave it in a public place, find somewhere that is well-lit and, ideally, is overlooked and covered by CCTV.

"Also consider fitting a tracking device, so that we can locate and hopefully return the bike in the event that it is stolen."

The suspects, who are aged 23 and 22, have since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Police say the bike has been has been recovered and will soon be returned to its owner.
