A tweet from Kent County Council's highways department said: “The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while allowing water works to be carried out,.”

The work by Southern Water means Belvedere Road will be shut between the junctions of the B2052 High Street and Dundonald Road.

Signs and barriers will be in place to alert drivers. Pedestrian access will be as normal.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Belvedere Road, York Avenue, and the High Street and vice versa.

For information on the closure you can contact Southern Water on 03303 0300368 and the KCC Highways helpline is 03000 418181.
