Former soldier Keith Tolley, of Westgate-on-sea, given drink driving ban

A war veteran who suffered facial injuries on a night out drove to hospital while drunk at the wheel, a court has heard.

Keith Tolley decided to drive himself to Margate's QEQM for treatment while more than double the legal limit.

The 34-year-old, who completed two tours of Iraq during his seven-year spell in the Army, sustained his injuries in Ramsgate on the evening of March 23.

He took a taxi home but after arriving at his house in Station Road, Westgate-on-Sea, the father-of-two decided to go to hospital.

Police stopped his car in Hawley Street, Margate, where Tolley gave a breath test reading of 85 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Tolley, who now works for waste collection firm Serco, pleaded guilty to a drink drive charge at Margate Magistrates' Court yesterday.
