Ramsgate: Car narrowly avoids going into harbour

This little white Nissan was just inches from a watery grave, after its driver forgot to put the handbrake on and almost rolled into a harbour.

Mike Richardson, 43, snapped a picture parking gaffe whilst out with a pal.

The car was seen dangling precariously over the edge of the harbour in Ramsgate, Kent.

Mike, a train driver, said: "I was with a friend, we were driving and we just saw the car.

"The owner had parked up and he had left his handbreak off, so it was hanging off the edge of the harbour.

"He was really lucky because the seals on the bottom of the car stuck to the harbour and kept it from falling in."

A couple of minutes later, the driver, a man who appeared to be in his 50s, returned to the harbour in Ramsgate, Kent.

Mike, who lives in Ramsgate, said: "The driver came back after a couple of minutes later, he was really embarrassed.

"He had a friend who came along with a van, but when they tried to pull it back onto the road.

But after half an hour, the ropes looked like they were going to snap, so they had to stop.

Later on in the evening, the harbourmaster was contacted and the little car was eventually rescued by a forklift.

Mike said: "Obviously, there is a funny side to this sort of thing happenng, but you've got to take it home and laugh about it, the owner was obviously quite embarrassed."
