Murder trial halted as Ian Stewart accused of murdering Helen Bailey taken ill

A murder trial has been adjourned after the man accused of killing author Helen Bailey was taken ill.

Ian Stewart, 56, of Baldock Road, Royston, Hertfordshire, is accused of drugging and killing his fiancee, the Electra Brown writer, in April 2016 at the home they shared.

Three months after her disappearance, Ms Bailey's body was discovered, alongside her beloved dachshund Boris, in a cesspit deep below her £1.5 million property.

Today, jurors at St Albans Crown Court were told by Judge Andrew Bright that Stewart was "not well enough to even come to court".

The case was adjourned until tomorrow.

The defendant denies charges of murder, preventing a lawful burial, fraud and three counts of perverting the course of justice.

Earlier this week, the court heard Stewart became increasingly 'frantic' the days after reporting Ms Bailey, who had a home in Broadstairs, missing to the police.

The case continues.
