Woman rescued from cliff edge in Cliftonville

A woman was coaxed to safety after fears she was going to jump from a cliff edge.

Police officers accompanied by Coastguard and ambulance crews spent more than six hours on the clifftops at Palm Bay, near Margate, last night.

They were responding to a call from a member of the public who had raised concerns for the distressed woman shortly after 5pm.

The area was cordoned off and witnesses reported seeing rescue workers on the cliffs wearing harnesses.

The woman eventually moved away from the edge and was taken to hospital just after midnight.

A spokesman said: "Police were called to Palm Bay Ave, Margate at 5.12pm on Saturday following a report of concern for a woman seen on the edge of a cliff.

"Police attended and cordoned off the scene and SECAmb were called.

"The woman came off the cliff edge and was taken by ambulance to hospital at 12.15am on Sunday."
