Man charged after stabbing near Whitstable railway station

A suspect has been charged after a man in his 50s was stabbed near a railway station.

Police were called to an alleyway off Old Bridge Road by Whitstable station during the early hours of yesterday morning following reports of a serious assault.

The man was taken to a London hospital with stab wounds and is currently in a stable condition.

A police spokesman said: “As part of an ongoing investigation by East Kent CID, Lewis Day has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a knife in public.

“The 25-year-old, of Hereson Road, Ramsgate, is due to appear before Folkestone Magistrates' Court today.

“A 32-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman who were also arrested in connection with the incident have been bailed pending further inquiries.”

A witness described seeing five police cars and armed officers at the station yesterday morning. Police tape also covered ticket machines.

Officers were called to the scene shortly before 12.30am yesterday.
