Border Force officers in Dover dealing with 'ongoing small boat incident'

Border Force officers are at the scene of an "ongoing small boat incident" off the Kent coast.

It is believed to be linked to the migrant crisis, which has seen hundreds attempt to reach to the UK by landing the boats on the county's shores.

A Home Office spokesman confirmed officials are in Dover this morning.

The spokesman added: "Further details will be provided once the situation has been resolved."

New government figures announced last week revealed that more than 700 migrants have planned or tried to reach Britain via the Channel in small boats in 14 months.

Migrants suffering with "mild hypothermia" were picked up by coastal patrols in France last Sunday.
