Dover Castle to be lit blue for the NHS and key workers as the country joins another Clap for Carers tonight

Dover Castle is the next public building to go blue for essential workers tonight, and the landmark is due to stay that way for the coming weeks.

The English Heritage run fort is late joining the Clap for our Carers movement where social distancing rules meant outside contractors could not be brought in.

It has a skeleton staff of multi skilled maintenance personnel who have now been trained in how to apply gel filters to the lighting system.

They've switched them over to blue, but owing to its technical nature, they'll be leaving them in pace for the foreseeable future, and the plus side is residents can celebrate our key workers every night.

A spokesman said today: "We are pleased to have found a solution to show our gratitude to the NHS, for all the amazing work they are doing during this time, whilst critically adhering to guidelines on social distancing.

"We hope local residents enjoy seeing Dover Castle lit blue tonight, and over the next few weeks."
