How did a fearless gladiator train to face his opponent in combat, what crazy antics did a jester perform to make royalty laugh or how did a noble knight learn to wield a heavy sword?
All will be revealed at Dover Castle’s Time Travellers Academy on Saturday and Sunday when historical characters will be on hand to teach youngsters skills and tricks of the trade from the past.
From 10am to 5pm each day youngsters can learn how to play the fool in Jester School and train to be a professional Roman fighter at Gladiator School.
There will also be chance to see if they have the flair and talent to be a gallant knight during sword fighting and skill at arms lessons in Knight School.
A medieval musician will be recruiting young drummers to accompany him as he plays historical dance tunes on the bagpipes and the hurdy gurdy while the Kent Circus School will be training youngsters in tight rope walking, juggling and the diabolo.
Admission is £10.30 for adults, £8.20 for concessions, £5.20 for children and £25.80 for a family ticket.
Other events planned at the castle include a Right Roman Day Out on August 9 and 10, the Worst Days Out in History on August 16 and 17, and Spooky Days Out from August 23 to 25.
During the month there are themed quiz trails on weekdays.
