A dramatic crash on the roundabout at the Strood exit of the Medway Tunnel caused tailbacks for motorists trying to leave the Medway City Estate on Monday.

A 4x4 vehicle landed on top of railings on the Anthonys Way roundabout at about 4.10pm. It was left facing oncoming traffic and it is thought a van may have also been involved in the collision.

The rental vehicle was later removed by a recovery vehicle, and police had to stop traffic while that was done.

One motorist who witnessed the crash, but didn't want to be named, said: "It mounted the metal railings around the roundabout. God knows how the driver did it, not a clue."

The police arrived on the scene at about 4.15pm to find the empty vehicle, which was abandoned by the driver.

A spokesman for Medway Police, said: "It appears a transit van and a Suzuki 4x4 have collided. Nobody appears to be injured."
