Girl struck by car outside school

by Graham Tutthill

The air ambulance was called to Dover on Tuesday after a 14-year-old girl was hit by a car in Barton Road.

The accident happened outside St Edmund's Catholic School just after 8.45am, always a busy time on that stretch of road as hundreds of children make their way to four schools in the area, and motorists are heading into the town centre.

Parents often stop on the zig-zag lines outside the school and on the approach to the pelican crossing.

Police said they understood the girl suffered a minor head injury and was taken to William Harvey Hospital at Ashford as a precaution.
