Record signing in swap deal link

Will Jason Euell be waving goodbye to Charlton?
Will Jason Euell be waving goodbye to Charlton?

UNSETTLED Jason Euell may leave Charlton for Birmingham in a transfer package that could include Clinton Morrison moving to The Valley.

Manager Alan Curbishley confirmed he had dismissed the Blues' first bid for the club’s 28-year-old £4.75million record signing and attacking midfielder.

He said: "Birmingham made a bid but it is nowhere near our valuation. The ball is in their court."

But he declined to comment on speculation that he might be prepared to take Birmingham’s 26-year-old former Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison as part of any deal for Euell.

With City manager Steve Bruce on the verge of concluding his long pursuit of Uruguay international striker Walter Pandiani, Morrison knows he will slip further down the pecking order.

He cost £4.25million when he left Selhurst Park for St Andrews in August, 2002.

All Curbishley would say regarding transfer speculation was: "We’re desperately trying to get a few people in and we haven’t made a secret of that.

"For things to happen there has to be a bit of a domino effect. Certainly, some of the things we’ve been trying to do we need something else to happen at another club."

Euell suffered a dislocated shoulder during the friendly at Dover Athletic on Tuesday, though, which could scupper any transfer deal that was on the cards.
