A local man, also in his 50s, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. A firearm has been recovered by police.
His next of kin have been informed.
Rachel Noakes, 30, who lives near where the incident happened, said: “I came out after it happened and saw the police, ambulances and first responders. The police cordoned off all around that area and I saw them working on the man.
"He was lying on the floor and the medics were getting things to try and revive him. Nothing like this has happened before.
"There’s been rowing but this is too close to home. It’s a bit worrying with two kids. I’m thankful we didn’t go to the shops this morning when it happened.”
