There will be few who don't know his face in the Aylesford area, but how well known is he in Chatham?

Dave Naghi, last year's Mayor of Maidstone, is to contest the Chatham and Aylesford constituency on behalf of the Lib Dems at the forthcoming General Election.

Mr Naghi, 62, of Mote Avenue Maidstone, has been self-employed since he was 21 and runs his own building firm. He joined the Liberal Democrat Party in 1998.

Born in America he holds dual American and British nationality.

He is very supportive of young people and has been a youth worker, a volunteer at the Howard De Walden centre and has been chairman of the Maidstone Sea Cadets unit for 14 years.

He has represented East Ward on Maidstone Borough Council since 2002 and was the major force behind the the revival of the Maidstone River Festival.

Mr Naghi said this election would be about three main issues: Brexit, the environmental crisis and the health service.

But he said: "Of course if we don't get the first one right - by remaining in the EU - the other two will suffer."

He said: "People are fed up with MPs promising a lot of things and then not actually doing anything. They want someone who will get things sorted. That's me."

The other candidates are Tracey Crouch (Con), John Wesley Gibson (Christian People's Alliance), Vince Maple (Lab) and Geoff Wilkinson (Green).
