General Election 2019: John Gibson contests Chatham and Aylesford for the Christian People's Alliance

John Wesley Gibson is a Christian youth worker and a pastor at the gospel church God’s Elect in Sandling, Maidstone.

He is contesting Chatham and Aylesford for the Christian People's Alliance Party - for the second time. He also stood in 2017 when he gained 260 votes and came bottom of the poll.

The CPA was formed in 1998 and is focussed on "hearing from God and seeking his heart for every sphere of public life."

The key policies are to "uphold democracy" and leave the EU as soon as possible, with no further referendum for at lest 10 years

To support marriage and the family by giving a grant of £12,000 when people get married for the first time and back-up with training and support, and also £6,000 when they have their first child backed up with training.

To protect the unborn, the party would take steps to greatly reduce abortion with the aim of getting rid of it entirely over time.

To make tax fair and help the poor by introducing a turnover tax of 5% targeted at overseas companies like Google, Facebook, Amazon Microsoft etc who send all their profits abroad. The party would also restore the £12bn cuts to benefits to make Universal credit work and guarantee a night shelter for everyone sleeping rough.

The party would fight crime by giving better support to people leaving prison. It would seek to reduce reoffending rates, which currently average 30%, to below 10%. which means fewer victims.

Rev Gibson, 42, is married with two sons. He has been a pastor since 1998. He is also a qualified mentor through CAST (Churches and Schools Together) and mentors young people in schools in Maidstone and Bromley.

He loves teaching and preaching the word of God with theological reflection. He is passionate about equipping people to know the Lord and impacting their community through the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

He said it was time to give Christians a voice in Parliament.

His party is opposed to same-sex marriage.

The other candidates are Tracey Crouch (Con), Vince Maple (Lab), Dave Naghi (Lib Dem) and Geoff Wilkinson (Green).
