Based on the novel of the same name by Mark Helprin, A New York Winter's Tale is a romance set in 1916 and present-day Manhattan that proves love never dies.

Petty thief Peter Lake (Colin Farrell) breaks into a house and he is instantly bewitched by a girl called Beverly Penn (Jessica Brown Findlay), who has tuberculosis and is slowly dying.

While she clings onto life with her father Isaac (William Hurt) at her side, Peter clashes with a sadistic Irish gangster called Pearly Soames (Russell Crowe), who doles out violence without mercy.

Peter is saved from a lethal beating by a mysterious white horse called Athansor, which becomes the thief's guardian angel across space and time.

With the steed by his side, Peter pledges his heart to Beverly, even if they can only be together for a few days.
