Hop Hoodening and blessing of the hops in Canterbury with Wantsum Morris

An annual celebration of the hop harvest which has been taking place for more than 60 years will come to a city centre this weekend.

The lively Hop Hoodening tradition organised by the Wantsum Morris Men, follows the ceremonial blessing of the hops in Canterbury Cathedral's Nave.

For the 65th annual event this year, celebrations on Saturday, September 11, will begin at 10.50am with a procession in the precincts and into the Cathedral led by the Hop Queen with her princesses.

A service will then be held before morris dancing sides take to the streets.

The groups will then process up the High Street to Rose Square for a final display of dancing in the afternoon.

Everyone is invited to attend the free event both in the Cathedral and then around the city - there is a voluntary collection to support running costs.
