Enjoy the outdoors with Explore Kent

Sponsored Editorial

Can you beat the feeling of being in the middle of the Kentish countryside?

Explore Kent is your guide to getting outside and experiencing the best of Kent’s coast, countryside, and woodland.

.

Our countryside has a vast network of footpaths, some hidden, others well known, but all enable you to explore the outdoors a little easier.

Explore Kent followers often tell us that the footpaths are ‘…a great way of discovering the countryside and keeping fit’.

Did you know that there are 3,571 miles of public footpaths across Kent? That’s about the same distance if you were to travel from Maidstone to Cairo by land, insane right? But also, an incredible facility to have on our doorstep!

The footpaths are looked after and repaired when needed to ensure they are always usable for the keen walker or four-legged friend. The small but fantastic team achieve a lot, including the removal of stiles along certain paths, enabling paths to be accessible for everyone.

This is appreciated by our community who have told us that those of certain ages have struggled with stiles being wobbly and too high – so this work provides some relief.

.

Useful App

We know, from experience, that finding footpaths can sometimes be challenging depending on where you live in Kent. That’s why we want to tell you about the Kent Connected app, it’s free and alongside being a sustainable journey planner, it also has all our Explore Kent walking and cycling routes on it. Plus, an additional layer on the map which shows up all the local footpaths – so it’s never been easier to plan a route right from your doorstep.

.

Easy Access

Easy Access routes are at the forefront of our priorities. Creating routes that are especially designed for those using a wheelchair, pushchair or just want a shorter, flatter walk.

The Explore Kent website has been designed to help you easily find wheelchair accessible activities with a simple search filter. One of our favourites is the Lower Leas Coastal Park in Folkestone with it’s beachy vibes but wildly kept flora and wide surfaced paths.

.

The Explore Kent website is full of an exciting selection of walks, cycling routes, places to visit and even where to paddle or horse ride. There’s never been a better time to start discovering the outdoor world and we are here to help you do just that, visit explorekent.org.
