Food fairs in Sevenoaks and Sandwich plus the Kent Vegan Festival in Canterbury

The Sandwich Food Fayre makes its return to the town this weekend with more stalls than ever.

The fayre, on Saturday, May 7, and Sunday, May 8, certainly has plenty of pulling power.
Camden Market’s Emilia’s is returning – this time with two stalls – selling treats such as fried squid and veganic Prosecco.

There will also be Paella España, Bexley Brewery, The Devil’s Pantry and the Cherry Berry Juice Co, among others. International cuisine includes Indian, Thai, Russian and Hungarian. Local suppliers will be well represented, with a good number being Produced in Kent members.

Organiser Veronica Lioté said: “We have booked space in St Peter’s Gardens as well as the Guildhall Forecourt and Market Street and will also be using King Street. We have had to turn some late requests away this year.”

"Veronica has also booked a number of local musicians to play outdoors on both days.”

A list of the stall-holders with links to their websites can be found at sandwichevents.org.uk

The Coastguard, St Margaret’s Bay

You almost feel like you’re on holiday when the phone dings “Welcome to France” as you pull into the car park of the historic seaside pub The Coastguard, near Dover.

Just reopened after a £200,000 refurbishment with Shepherd Neame, the pub dates back more than 300 years and has undergone something of a transformation. In keeping with its seafront position, its new look has a maritime theme.

The licensees are Tom and Karensa Miller, who have run the Zetland Arms at nearby Kingsdown since 2013.

The Coastguard menu includes light bites and traditional main meals, with seafood a speciality. Food is available from noon to 2.45pm and 6pm to 8.45pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 6pm to 8pm on Sundays.
