Five places to eat on Pancake Day including Bill's, the Hot Rod Diner, Gravesend and Kitch, Canterbury

From thin and crispy crepes to stacks of pancakes loaded with toppings, we’ve got you covered this Pancake Day.

BASKERVILLE’S COFFEE HOUSE, MAIDSTONE

This quiet, quaint coffee house is the perfect place to go if you fancy something a little lighter for Pancake Day. Grab a table at this dog-friendly cafe, choose either the sweet (fruit, Nutella and ice cream) or savoury (bacon and maple syrup) option and tuck into a tasty treat alongside your morning coffee or afternoon tea break.

BILL’S, TUNBRIDGE WELLS

If in doubt when it comes to eating out, Bill’s is always a safe bet. With refined food at affordable prices, you can’t really go wrong at this British chain restaurant - and Pancake Day is no exception. The Tunbridge Wells branch of Bill’s serves up stacks of pancakes each day until 11:30am, so your morning can get off to a delicious start. You can also visit Bill’s restaurants in Bluewater, Canterbury and Sevenoaks.

CHOCAFELLAS, CHATHAM

If you really want to indulge (and let’s face it, who doesn’t?) then you couldn’t ask for anything better than Chocafellas. This high street parlour is a chocolate-lover’s heaven, serving up waffles, crepes and pancakes heaped with lashings of sauces, fresh fruit, and your favourite sweet treats. You can choose from the likes of Oreo, M&Ms, Kinder Bueno - the list is endless. It’s definitely not a dessert for the faint-hearted!

HOT ROD DINER, GRAVESEND

This authentic roadside diner is right out of the 1950s, dishing up American delights with a hearty side of nostalgia. Think thick handmade milkshakes, loaded burgers, ranch dressing and, of course, buttermilk pancakes. Choose from simple stacks drizzled with maple syrup or unique toppings such as apple pie and biscoff spread. For picky eaters, there is also the option to create your own, which younger diners are sure to love.

KITCH, CANTERBURY

Tucked away beside the canal and just a stone’s throw from the Westgate Towers sits Kitch. This cosy cafe is a top spot for people watching along the bustling Canterbury high street, and the best part is you can enjoy a helping of vegan pancakes while you do so. These can also be made gluten free and are finished with fresh, light toppings such as goji berries, dark chocolate and vegan yoghurt to leave you feeling satisfied, not stuffed, this Pancake Day.

Opening times: 9am to 5pm, Monday to Sunday. The kitchen closes at 3pm daily

Finally, if just eating pancakes isn’t enough and you want to do something extra-special to celebrate Shrove Tuesday, you can take part in the annual Westgate-on-Sea pancake race.

This year, the town’s traditional pancake-flipping race takes place along Station Road on Tuesday, March 1from 10am to noon.
