For sale: Inside £10m eight-bedroom country house near Maidstone that was once home to a Prime Minister's family

What would you buy if you won the lottery? If an eight-bedroom country house with a swimming pool, tennis courts and more than 120 acres of parkland is on your list, you might want to get yourself a ticket.

This spectacular property, with a £10 million asking price, boasts the joint title for the most expensive house on the market in Kent, alongside three other homes in Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells.

For Maidstone residents, however, this is the only house you’ll find nearby with such a hefty price tag – and it’s easy to see why.

Hunton Court is a historic Grade-II listed building bursting with traditional features.

The original home, dating back to the 13th century, began as a timber-framed farmhouse.

It was then transformed into a Georgian-style building in the early Victorian period.

Until 2008, the estate belonged to the Bannerman family, including Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman during his time as Prime Minister from 1905 to 1908.

The home has been kept up to scratch by the current owners and much of its historic character is still in place.

From the attic’s original roof and crown posts to the exposed wooden beams and cobbled courtyard, walking through this home is like stepping into a period drama.

However, that doesn’t mean you’ll be living in the dark ages.

The main house has many impressive facilities that are perfectly suited to the modern family.

There's a large kitchen and pantry, a huge dining room and two reception rooms to entertain guests and give residents their space.

There is also a charming morning room which, along with the Old Chapel, is the oldest room in the house.

The first floor is home to six of the property’s eight bedrooms.

This is where the striking master bedroom, with its own dressing room, en-suite and delightful garden views, can be found.

The second floor is, if possible, even more impressive, with a home cinema, recording studio and children’s playroom – things you certainly won’t find in most ordinary homes.

As if the main house wasn’t enough, the estate also includes the old Coach House – which has been split into two flats – a workshop and storage unit, some traditional stables and a three-bedroom south lodge, which boasts its own study and kitchen.

If you aren’t already sold on the extraordinary buildings, then the sprawling land is bound to win you over.

With 128 acres of countryside parkland, as well as 30 acres of picturesque woodland, you’ll be amazed by the vast green space that surrounds this idyllic home.

The grounds at Hunton Court, all centred around a peaceful lake, are a garden-lover’s dream.

The mix of vivid formal lawns, busy flower beds and walled garden, which encases the greenhouse, vegetable patch, orchard and tennis courts, are nothing short of breathtaking.

Just outside the back doors of the main house also lies a terrace and heated outdoor swimming pool for those lazy summer days.

If you want to venture further afield, then it’s just a short walk to the village of Hunton.

Maidstone town centre is, traffic allowing, a 15-minute drive – although with so much beautiful outdoor space on your doorstep, you might choose to stay at home.
