The play is coming to the Churchill Theatre in Bromley for five nights, bringing with it a life-sized tiger, hyena, zebra and orangutan.

Based on Yann Martel’s 2001 novel, which sold 10 million copies worldwide, the show follows a teenager who is the sole human survivor of a shipwreck in the Pacific Ocean.

When Pi finds himself stranded on the lifeboat, he soon realises that his only company until he reaches land is a herd of wild animals.

The animals, including the large Bengal tiger, are depicted in the stage show with incredible lifelike puppets.

The puppetry has been created by Finn Caldwell, the Puppet and Movement Director known for shows such as War Horse and numerous National Theatre productions.

The novel was adapted into a blockbuster film in 2012, starring Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan and Rafe Spall.

The film, directed by Ang Lee, was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and won Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects and Best Original Score.
